Year Book Picture Day is approaching!!

Open House for Burns Middle School will be on Tuesday, August 25 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. We encourage all parents to attend so that you may meet each of your student's teachers. You will follow an abbreviated timeline of your student's schedule where you can speak with each of his or her teachers.
August 25 is also school picture day. Each student will have their picture taken in their regular school uniform for our yearbook and for you to purchase online. More information to follow.
We have had a great start to the year. The first two days we have been acclimating our students to our expectations both academically and behaviorally while granting some grace with some school policies especially concerning dress code and cell phones. I want to thank our parents for your support in holding our students accountable as well. Beginning tomorrow all school policies will be enforced. Please make sure your student is dressed according to school policy including wearing a belt and that if they bring a cell phone it is in their yondr pouch. Any student who is caught with a cell phone not locked in their pouch will be suspended out of school for one day. Thank you again for your help and support as we seek to provide your child with the best education possible. I'm
Dear Parents,
We are very excited about the new school year. Our teachers have been busy preparing their rooms and getting ready for an exciting school year filled with learning. In preparation for a successful school year, I want to remind students and parents of some important policies. No cell phones or ear buds allowed unless they are locked up in their yondr pouch. No hoodies or jackets with hoods are allowed at any time regardless of weather conditions. Belts must be worn. No three ring binders allowed. No headphones allowed. All backpacks must be clear plastic with visibility all around the pack. No smart watches. Your support in these areas will help us insure a positive learning environment for all students. Our school theme this year is Level Up, Game On!! So get ready and stay ready.
Your principal,
Todd Knight
Students who are coming to Burns Middle this year, but have not registered for school yet should not come to school tomorrow to register until 10:00am. We will register students tomorrow from 10:00am to 1:00pm only. Students who have already registered should be at school no later than 7:20am. The tardy bell rings at 7:25am. 6th and 7th graders will report to the gymnasium and 8th graders will report to the cafeteria in the morning. Breakfast will be served from 6:55am to 7:20am for any students wanting to eat breakfast.Students should not be dropped off at school before 7:00am.
For those that have still not registered your child for school, we will have registration tomorrow from 12:30 - 3:30. No appointment necessary, but you may have to wait in line.
For those parents who have not registered their child for this school year, please call the school to set up an appointment with our registrar this week. School begins on August 10 so we need all students attending Burns Middle to register by this Friday. Please make an appointment with our registrar before you come to the school to register your child. If your child has not registered and is not in PowerSchool they may not have a class schedule ready on the first day. Our school number is 251-221-2025.
Due to Three Ring Binders setting off our metal detector, students are not allowed to bring Three Ring Binders to school.
Parents, please remember that backpacks must be clear all the way around, water bottles must be clear plastic, students must wear a belt, and if bringing a cell phone, they must have a Yondr Pouch. There is a $25 fee for the pouch. Once a student buys their pouch, it is their pouch to keep for use each year as long as it is functional. Thank you for your support in these matters.
For any parents who have not come up to the school to register their child, we will be available to help you from 12:00pm to 3:00pm each weekday until August 7 excluding July 28 and 30. If you have not registered your child yet, please do so before school starts on August 10.
If your student will be a bus rider this year, please go to the MCPSS transportation page and enter your address to locate the bus stop closest to your home as well as pick up and drop off times. On the first day of school, the bus driver will have forms for each student that must be signed and returned.
We have a change this school year to the previously posted school fees. The fee for all grades this year that covers all elective and core class fees including PE uniforms is a flat $75. If you choose not to get a PE uniform that money will the be used for class fees as well. This fee does not include regular school uniforms or rental of band instruments. Thank you for your understanding and your support of Burns Middle School. Go Blazers!
